MSI Announces New CR600 and CR620 Notebooks
MSI recently announced that it would be releasing 4 new notebooks powered by Intel processors and aimed at providing users with a prime viewing experience. The MSI CR620 models, which come with a 15.6″ display, will be powered by the new Intel Core i3 and Core i5 Intel processors, 4 GB of RAM and hard drive options ranging from 320GB to 500GB as well as a Blu-Ray drive which will be included on the CR620-031 model.
The MSI CR620 models are priced as follows:
- MSI CR620-030 – $649 – Core i3
- MSI CR620-033 – $729 – Core i3
- MSI CR620-031 – $749 – Core i5
Both the MSI CR620-031 and MSI CR620-033 are already available for purchase at Newegg at prices below retail.
The MSI CR 600 model will be powered with an Intel Dual Core T4500 processor, with 3GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 8200M GPU. The older technology in this notebook is reflected in its starting price of $529.
While the 5.6 pound CR620 models may prove a bit heavy for lugging around all day these MSI models, complete with a 3 year manufacturer’s warranty, would provide a student with a good notebook at an affordable price. The CR620 series would be good for many student activities like surfing the web, writing papers, connecting to school email, editing photos and more. If you want to do significant video editing the power of the Intel Core i5 model may be worth the higher price.

These computers are JUNK! The CR6XX and A6XXX series are exteremely flimsy in construction. The screws holding the LCD panel to the base of the computer always come loose as well as the screws that hold the display hinges to the LCD panel. Also the arms holding the LCD panel to the hinges are composed of extremely soft metal with a single spot weld that holds the arm together. This spot weld frequently fails causing the LCD back panel (the computers lid) to break at the hinge points. The area of the lower case, where the display hinges attach have no reinforcement so when a hinge failure occurs, the hinge mounting points in computers’s base frequently break. In addition. the cost of replacement parts for these computers is extreme. I know this because I have had to repair a large quantity of these computers that are less than a year old. My advice, save your money and buy something that is more durable.
