I did a clean install from 32-bit Vista Ultimate to 64-bit Win7 Pro. Cost $30, and just being able to use 64-bit is worth it.

Sorry, but that’s a tired old cliche. Apart of that, the drivers are just there. You don’t need to hunt them because they won’t run away.

The path of least resistance at home is OS X + AppleCare. Otherwise, I spend time even more time working for the companies I’m paying for the software to get the stuff to work right. Labor is expensive, and that’s the reason I don’t bother with Linux either. Linux is for people who have the time, the patience and the interest to hunt for drivers and try to make them work.

At work, the IT staff maintains XP and keeps it tolerably problem-free. At what cost, it’s not clear, but the cost of changing to something else would be horrendous.

I am using linux for a years now and I think Windows 7 it’s simply next generation of virus for those who already sick

Don’t get me wrong, MS guys doing hard job, it’s really hard to maintain proprietary software this days. But look around, the world is changing!
