Psydeways,

Good point on the lack of a standard VGA cable. However, this is becoming less of a concern since most newer projectors have DVI or HDMI. You can get a $3 DVI to HDMI cable or adapter.

Crapware is a problem on nearly all laptops and netbooks and it isn't exclusive to Dell. The solution is a clean wipe when you need to do this for any notebook you buy.

The single-core price is for a very inexpensive laptop. What do you expect on a $434 product? If that isn't good enough for you, spend an extra $75 on the SU4100 upgrade for much better performance and battery life. That brings the price up to $509, but still a very good price for an ultraportable.

I am amused you mention 3 ONLY downsides:

(1) "The only down side is all the trial and crapware"

(2) "The only downside to the 11z appears to be the weak trackpad and (3) relatively slow single-core low frequency CPU."

Actually, I'd add a forth: (4) no VGA port. So no connection to 95% of projectors used by students, teachers, businesses, etc. So with clean install of Win7, addition of small mouse & USB->VGA gadget ($50-70), this would be handy 2nd notebook.
