UPDATE – iPhone 3Gs Pre-Order Shipments (Definitely) Being Delayed by Apple?
We have an update on last night’s post sbout how my iPhone pre-order shipment looked like it was destined to show up early according to the UPS tracking number provided by Apple. Many other happy iPhone customers received the same information from UPS. A couple days later, the received news that their shipments would not show up early and that the “receiver” had asked for the shipment to be delayed.
I won’t repeat all of the details, but I do have an update. Apple just sent me an email regarding the delayed shipment:
To Our Valued Apple Customer:
Thank you for your recent order with Apple.
Our records indicate that your iPhone 3G S pre-order has shipped.
Our carrier’s website may have displayed an incorrect delivery
date for your order. However, we expect your iPhone order to be
delivered on time on June 19, 2009.
You can view the most up-to-date status of your order at
<http://apple.com/orderstatus>.
Thank you for shopping at the Apple Online Store.
Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team
I don’t think they displayed the incorrect information for everybody Apple, I just think your expending a lot of effort in order to hold orders back until the actual release date. Question is, is it to be fair to all who are buying the shiny new device or is it because your system is not ready for the activation of the phones?

My UPS info looked just like that ALL day, I just checked and now all it says is “in transit” and those “delayed by receiver” scans are not there anymore. That must mean UPS will beging shipping them out tonight to our hometowns so they can scan it and load up the trucks ready to go for friday (morning please!!)

Same thing for me on the iPhone 3GS shipment, however, while I’ve had assurances from Apple that I will receive it tomorrow, UPS is showing it still being held by recipient request…(no F’in way!) Given it’s still in Kentucky, unless it’s put on a plane by end of day today there’s no way it will be on a truck for delivery tomorrow a.m. in NJ. I think someone screwed something up. Apple also refunded my expedited shipping fees… preemptive on their part?

hmm all day and still no go. Its obvious that unless they leave kentucky tonight to load them up we wont get them tomm. But this all seems pretty well coordinated so I’m gonna have faith for tomm! Im down in Miami so let’s see!!!! Be glad they refunded your shipping, they did that because everyone who preordered is getting (presumably) the same shipping service for the 19th, that’s as expedited as can be, my date was also the 19th from the beginning (ordered mine on the 10th) and didnt pay faster shipping. Awesome for you!

I pre-ordered from AT&T on the 16th. I’ve spoken with AT&T three times since then. Each time, I’m told there was a problem on their end, and that my order has been processed and sent to the warehouse for shipping; which would occur in 24-48 hours. Obviously, I’m being given the runaround, as I was told that for the first time a week ago.
