I'm with you. My friend and I were in line since Wed night at 10. We actually got the ticket for the $349 laptop bundle and were told that we had til 9am to pick them up. I took my son across the street to Kohls since they were open so he could use the restroom. When we got back to the store it was open so we got at the back of the line but had no worries since we had our tickets.

When we got up to the counter we were told that they had no more $349 bundles. He said someone "made copies." The receiving manager refused to do anything for my friend even though we had the correct tickets. When I got to the counter I asked the lady if there was anything that could be done. She called over one of the Geeks and he went to ask the store manager. He came back and they offered me the Compaq CQ50-215nr as a bundle. I saw that it had a bigger hard drive and better video card so I agreed. The receiving manager refused to do anything for my friend until I told him the store manager was hooking me up and got with the Geek who talked to the store manager.

So we got the replacements and I went home to sleep. When I woke up later that day I noticed that my computer did not have a card reader or HDMI hookup so I drove back to the store where the store manager hooked me up with a card reader. So it was all good but I still called corporate (not customer service) since the original computer was in stock a few days later at another local store and I wanted to exchange it. He said he could not do that but sent me a $50 gift card. I didn't really need the HDMI connection, anyway.

So Black Friday screw ups at Best Buy are the standard for 2008. I share your pain.

I'm glad she had a positive outcome, but I don't like the fact that she had to beg/plead to get what she deserved. Best Buy really needs to standardize how their managers/employees handle Black Friday and have strict rules against insider buying/swapping.

Best Buy managers/employees have a horrible reputation for customer service. I'm glad you had luck with the CEO! Way to stick it to 'em ;)

Your story was very horrendous, but at least you got satisfaction at the end. I had a similar experience at Fry's, where I waited in line from 3:30 A.M. on Black Friday, until the store opened at 5 A.M. I rushed back to the computer department to get the HP Notebook that they advertised for $299. I got back there just in time to hear a sales associate announce that they were out of the HP notebooks! This is only about fifteen minutes after the store opened for business!! The "customer service" representative was completely useless when I approached her for a rain check. So now you know why I will NEVER enter a Fry's store again in my lifetime.
