FireWire is superior to USB 2 without a doubt. I wouldn't buy a portable computer without it to use on my many FireWire external peripherals. FireWire transfers at a sustained speed of 400 Mbps, and although USB 2 can reach 480 Mbps, the sustained speed of it is slower than FireWire.

I also have FireWire 800 which runs at twice the speed of USB 2, which is simply more common, but definitely not better. With this computer, a 2-port FireWire 400 ExpressCard can be plugged in for about $60.00, or a 2-port FireWire 800 ExpressCard for about $80.00.

I can confirm this deal, the specs and the price. I received about 600 of them at the northeast regional DC. I forget how many stores we serve but I think it will amount to about 6-12 of these per store. Firewire is nothing special it was on most low end laptops 2 years ago, probably on this one.
