Let Me Introduce Myself

Hello Notebooks.com readers. My name is Adam and I will be popping in from time to time to share my thoughts and contribute product reviews. Before jumping in I felt it was only right to give you a little background on who I am and what you might expect me to cover over the upcoming months.

I am a Silicon Valley resident and long time computer user who can still remember what it was like using an Apple IIe to discover the Oregon trail. Back then we didn’t fear the blue screen of death or the spinning wheel of doom. On the trail we feared dying of dysentery.

Fast forward many years later to Windows desktops, huge clunky monitors, and 3.5 inch floppies to store the few things you didn’t want to keep on your 800 megabyte drive.

A lot has happened since then. A few notables over the past 10 years or so have been Zip drives, CD/DVD burners, LCD monitors, Bluetooth, and of course this thing we spend so much time on called the internet.

All of these developments have been stepping stones to a great age in computing. Without portable media we might not possibly be able to move files as easily from place to place, computer to computer. Technology has enabled us to create smaller displays which as a result makes them more portable and energy efficient. Last but not least, I can’t thank our good friend wi-fi enough. You provide me no excuse not to update my Facebook from the breakfast table. I am extremely excited to see where portable computing takes us. It enables us to work, play, and connect with limited confinements.

That said, I am curious what developments in portable computing get you excited? Do you have fond memories of the ugly box tethered to your even uglier monitor on the corner desk or have you always felt the liberation that a notebook brings? Feel free to share in the comments. In the future I hope to touch on this subject a bit more. Until then, expect me to focus on Apple products such as the new Macbook Pros and the iPhone as well as the many accessories that we use daily alongside our notebooks.

Fond memories of days past indeed! In what other times could I read and comment on a post from my lazy boy on a phone? iPhone rocks, Macs too I’m interested in what else you have to say, welcome aboard! Thanks for the trip down memory lane sometimes we forget how far technology has come in a “short” period.

And to think kids complain about the iPhone having 8GB or 16GB of storage. I remember when I got all excited over 90 minute tapes. Welcome.

  9. Great post Adam, that really brings me back. Allll the way back to the 80′s when I first ditched my Atari for the new Apple Commodore my grandfather bought me as a kid. All MS-DOS in those days, but he swore it would be the future.
I wonder if he knew just how right he was, or how that computer started me on the path to a great career in blogging. Can’t wait to see what you write next!
