Oh, I forgot. This machine, as claimed by Vista, has a windows experience index of 1.0 for the gaming as well as the business graphics. But, natively, the hard drive is 5.0 or 5.2. Yet, in VirtualBox, it is 5.9. The other index rating, which I cannot recall (processor?) was 4.2, I think the RAM rated a little under.

But, the machine is more than good enough for me as running Linux goes, except the NDISWRAPPER software cannot wake up that wintel wireless and Bluetooth hardware Acer/Gateway chose to install. Guess I’ll have to buy USB for them both.

As for battery life, the customizable power management profiles in PCLinuxOS 2007 (and likely in any current, modern Linux distributions) rates or predicts my battery power time to within a minute of what Vista predicts.

I found out serendipitously that the P-6301 has TWO hard drive cradles. I love that, and I have one 160 GB and one 80 GB disk both in, with Linux on both, and vista on one. I COULD dual-boot, but in VirtualBox, vista runs almost as fast as on native running. Well, vista BOOTS slower virtually, but it RUNS with a WEI of 5.9 for the disk.

You’d really do your readers a greater service if you tell them what’s PHYSICALLY going on inside, not just repeat marketing specs.
