Office 2008 for Mac Prices Announced

Office 2008 for Mac Microsoft announced details and pricing for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The new suite of office applications will be launched January 15, 2008. There will be three versions of Office for Mac, priced from $149 to $499.

The flagship product, Office 2008 for Mac, is the core suite that includes Microsoft Office Word 2008, Microsoft Office Excel 2008, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2008 and Microsoft Office Entourage 2008 for exceptional productivity on the Mac. The core version will retail of $399, with an upgrade available for Office 2004 users for $239.

A basic version of Office 2008 for Mac Home and Student edition will cost $149 for three users. It appears this edition will be identical to the core version except connections to Exchange servers and automated workflows will not be supported.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition will retail for $499. The extra $100 will include everything form the core edition, plus Microsoft Expression Media for Mac for digital asset management tools.

All versions of Office 2008 for Mac support the new Open XML file format and will run natively on Power PC and Intel-based Macs. Each version will be available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, and, for the first time, in the Nordic languages (Danish, Finnish and Norwegian)

âہ“We built Office 2008 with the unifying goal of making it easier for Mac users to access the tools they need to get the job done â€â€Â whether itâ€â„¢s creating a brochure for their business, managing their family schedule and finances, or finalizing a presentation to share between Macs and PCs,â€Â said Craig Eisler, general manager of the Mac BU at Microsoft. âہ“And, of course, Office 2008 for Mac will provide the document fidelity with the 2007 Microsoft Office system that our users need to stay connected with their friends and co-workers on PCs.â€Â

It’s good to finally see a refreshed Office suite for Mac, but it’s lame that the Home and Student edition will no longer work with Exchange. Microsoft is future-proofing some customers who buy Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac between now and the launch of Office 2008 for Mac.
