Read this...it will help:

Hi all, hereby I would like to share my experiences with HP

We have several HP 6820s laptops with BIOS F.02. Because LED near laptop's power socket sometimes was dark (neither orange nor blue) I thought upgrading the BIOS would help.

I downloaded and executed a newest BIOS upgrade: sp41876.exe (HPQFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (68MDU) - Microsoft Windows-Vista-Based F.0D N). After that I ended up with a BIOS telling me that "Your BIOS failed to complete the update. Please ensure that you follow the correct procedures and try again. This may require two sequential BIOS updates to complete the process."

But finally a SOLUTION (which worked for me): I've downloaded sp40490.exe (HPQFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS - Microsoft Windows-Vista-Based F.0B A) and downgraded the F.0D BIOS to F.0B BIOS. Then it rebooted twice (which at least was some good symptom) and the first message ("Your BIOS failed to complete the update. Please ensure ...") didn't appeared! Ok then, I'll tried to apply the F.0D version and now it's also OK - BIOS shows newest version and didn't complains about "Your BIOS failed to complete the update. Please ensure ...".

That's my story with this HP product. But the power LED still gets dark so I've lost few days fighting with BIOS-ghosts.
