One phrase, "Vista blows chunks". Slow response and 3+minute bootup time. I just recently finished installing XP on the machine. Ran into trouble along the way. Gateway will not support XP on the Machine and had to do hunt and peck to get the SATA, video, modem, LAN, Wireless LAN and other drivers. It was a real headache, but worth it. Machine is now about 3x faster and I don't have to fight Vista guardian (security) all the time. Bought a used Gateway MX8711 from TigerDirect.com with Vista pre-installed.
