Toshiba announced a 100GB,1.8-inch drive for notebooks and portable media players. The Toshiba MK1011GAH is the highest capacity 1.8-inch drive so far, employing perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology and an improved error correction code to secure a density of 155.3 gigabits per square inch. Toshiba has also improved power consumption to 0.003W/GB. The 4,200 RPM notebook drive will be mass produced starting January 2007.
