Lenovo is breaking from tradition and offering a widescreen version of its T-series notebook for the first time. Now business users can choose between a 14.1-inch and 15-inch standard-aspect screen (4:3)or the 15.4-inch WSXGA+ widescreen (16:9) when ordering T60 notebooks.
Lenovoâ€â„¢s competitors have been offering widescreens exclusively on certain models, but Lenovo is trying to satisfy both the standard and widescreen crowds.
â€ÂWe are trying add choice for our customers,â€ÂÃƒâ€šÃ‚ said Raj Raj Aggarwal, worldwide product manager for the ThinkPad T series. âہI still think the 14 and 15 (inch) are very good offerings.â€ÂÃƒâ€šÃ‚
Many users prefer being able to view more spreadsheet columns or view documents side by side. Widescreens are rapidly replacing standard aspect ratios and the corporate office is no exception.
â€ÂItâ€â„¢s Hard to predict the market, but we see the transition ramping up all of next year and into 2008,â€ÂÃƒâ€šÃ‚ Aggarwal said.
All of the dimensions of the widescreen T60 are nearly identical to the 14.1-inch version, except the overall width. The widescreen ThinkPad T60 is will business users to view web pages and documents side by side, watch DVDs full screen without the letterbox effect. At 1.1-inch thick, itâ€â„¢s the lightest 15.4-inch widescreen amongst the top-5 PC manufacturers, weighing in at 5.1 pounds.
The T60 comes with a choice of Core 2 Duo processors, Wireless N, WWAN3 (Cingular or Verizon), Bluetooth and all the professional-level security and safety features youâ€â„¢d expect out of a ThinkPad.
The ThinkPad T60 widescreen starts at $1,399 and will start selling today.
