I got this computer during the 2006 Black Friday sale at Best Buy. It was well worth it. I’ve now finished grad school and continue to use the computer on a regular basis. Battery life does suck, have to keep it plugged in most of the time. The laptop does all the simple things I need it to:

Surf the Web

Microsoft Office 2007

E-mails

Chat

These are the main reasons I use the computer. I bought a external hard drive to back up everything on, and I moved all my papers and other files onto that hard drive. After I got everything important off this computer, I wiped it with the restore disk, and now I just use it for the activities listed above. It’s been working great.

I have had this laptop for a year now, It is the Toshiba Satellite L35-S2171. I have not had that many problems with it, I dont see what everyone is copmlaining about. I have done no upgrades to it ram or memory wise, and have downloaded a few programs. It works fine. I have never had any problems with any keys sticking or the touchpad. I am a college student and have typed several papers, not to mention countless e mails to professors, and chatting with friends so its not from lack of use. I have noticed a few things such as the battery life is or well lack there of battery life. Mine usually lasts about two hours. Im not sure but i believe it is a six cell, Im also not sure but upgrading to an eight cell might prove useful. Its is slow at some times but Im about to upgrade to 2 gigs of ddr2 pc2 4200 which is recomended for this laptop. It does get warm but havent seen any adverse effects because of it. It has locked up a few times I belive because of me trying to do too many processes at once but that might be fixed with the ram upgrade, however the single core processor at 1.6 Ghz does show itself from time to time trying to load programs. So overall it has its quirks but nothing too bad it has served me well in school, and continues to do so. Like I said Ive had it for a year and never had to service it or have it serviced. The descision is yours for a computer I hope you found this useful.

THIS LAPTOP IS SLOW JUNK, IT LOCKS UP WHEN EVER IT WANTS. I HAVE WANTED TO SMASH IT MANY TIMES. IT WAS ONLY 299.99 ON BLACK FRIDAY. I WANTED A CHEAP LAPTOP AND THIS IS WHAT I GOT. I WILL GO THIS THANKSGIVING AND SEE IF I CAN GET A BETTER ONE. I CAN ALWAYS SELL THIS ONE FOR 400.00

I got this computer for more than the $299 price – cheap, but sorry I bought it. The keys stick, the touchpad keys stick, it is SLOW – never mind about Vista; this thing will NOT have the power to run it, for sure. Don’t waste your money – get at least a 1G and stay away from Toshiba. I’d thought they fixed their classic overheating problem, but this computer is making noises like it is laboring from heat.
I picked up this computer at Office Depot at a sale — it was super cheap. I wasn’t thrilled with the keyboard – but figured I could overlook that. I was wrong. The keyboard SUCKS. BIG TIME. The keys stick, and are awkward. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it is the worst keyboard I’ve ever used. It became just one in a series of issues that amount to being sorry to have purchased it. The battery life is awful; seems to last just about an hour, when I was told it would last around 3. Not sure of the cell size of the battery. When it is on for a while, it begins to make a weird sort of “sigh” as if it is laboring. It has done this since inception. The touchpad keys stick – and this laptop only has gotten light, gentle use. It is cheaply made, and within a very short order of time, it began to show this. It is way too slow – I would recommend that NO ONE get less than 1G memory now. And I was NOT using large programs; merely surfing, researching and writing. No games, no fancy programs. I should have trusted my instincts and gone with the HP 4.1 I had my eye on, despite the fact that it was twice the price. I am typing this review on my brand new, incredibly light and powerful HP dv 2416us, which I picked up at Office Depot with a $150 rebate — so that the end price is just $719. I wasted several hundred dollars on the Toshiba – don’t do the same thing I did. Stay AWAY from this one. Do yourself a favor, and get a decent laptop. You’ll end up saving money, time, hassle and aggravation!
