Lightweight 17″ Laptops for the Budget-Minded

Averatec announced its first line of 17″ notebooks, the 7100 series. With a 1-inch profile, it weighs only 7.2 pounds, which is less than any other 17-incher on the market. Features include a WXGA display, a numeric keypad, up to 2GB of RAM, an 80 or 100 GB HDD, a DVD burner and a 5-in-1 media card reader. There’s also a firewire and three USB 2.0 ports. The 7100 notebooks will have a starting price between $849 and $1,199 depending on configuration.

    This is the 1st laptop I have had. I really like it. I carry it with me visiting and showing it off. It is not heavy, even when it is in my bag with accessories. I am of course still learning about the features. I really like the wireless feature. It came with XP installed, which is what I was looking for.
