Intel Proposes ‘Affordable’ $400 Laptop for Developing Countries

Intel is throwing its weight behind a Laptop for developing countries called the “EduWise,” which will sell for $400. Intel’s Craig Barrett says MIT’s $100 notebook compter (above) is just a gadget, and students in developing nations “need” a more robust system. Sure, we’re all for narrowing the digital divide, but $400 is a lot of rupees. If the governments of the world want to order up laptops for students in that price range, they can already do that by heading over to Dell or HP’s educational web sites. It doesn’t take a lot of software or MHz to teach students how to type, email and explore their history on the web.Go MIT!
