ToughBooks at 29,000 ft.

A team of 10 climbers, from seven countries and five faiths, will use Panasonic Toughbook notebook computers and rugged PDAs to receive weather updates and other critical information via satellite as they attempt to summit Mount Everest. They will use the mobile computers to communicate with the outside world and send us photos and videos. We’ll let you know how exactly how tough the notebooks really are and post regular updates. According to a Panasonic spokesperson, the Toughbook-29s being used on the expedition are off-the shelf, with no special mods. The temperature can fall to as low as -76 degrees Fahrenheit, extreme conditions call for extreme notebooks.
